Department Of Defense
Introduction
The United States Department of Defense oversees and coordinates the United States military and implements military policy. The department's functions are outlined in Title 10 of the United States Code. The Pentagon is the department's headquarters. Defense was granted cabinet status with the signing of the National Security Act in 1947.
